MY FAVOURITE PHOTO STUDIOS IN SAIGON

I want to share more about our work, things that would be interesting to other people as well, that’s why I’m starting this business insights series. If you like it, gimme a like so I know : D

REVONS STUDIO
This is our go-to place for any kind of shoot actually. It’s a fairly big studio with two daylight rooms, white walls, basic flooring and a lot of natural daylight in the mornings and a great mood around afternoon. We mostly come here for basic flatlay and outfit detail photos. We love this place because it’s close to our shop, service is decent, nobody bothers you and it’s pricing is pretty good at 250K/hour. There is also always an available spot somehow when we need it, that’s why we always come back. For first-timers it can be a little hard to find. It’s opposite 166A Ton That Thuyet and it’s like a warehouse. You just walk in, it will be the last studio on the right. (The last studio because there are two others.)

Location: Opposite 166A Ton That Thuyet, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Price: 250K/Hour

D ROCK’s STUDIO
We love this place even though we have shot there only once. This place is huge, last time we had two shootings at the same time together with my boyfriend. It’s the top floor of an old apartment building with super high ceilings and a very strong industrial feeling due to its rawness. If you just need a couple flatlay shots this is not going to be very your most profitable choice, as one hour is 700K. And you need to book well in advance, this is not a place you can just drop by due to its popularity. Service is really friendly and helpful, they speak English as well. Since its on the top floor one sessions comes along with free usage of the rooftop as well.

Location: A2-25, 341 Cao Dat, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Price: 700,000VND/1 hour, 2,500,000VND/4 hours, 3,800,000VND/1 day = 8 hours

Quynh and me got invited to a meal at Namo Tuscan Grill, one of our regular candle light dinner date places haha. For some random reason I never ever have candle light dinners with anybody else haha. We were invited for a tasting menu of two appetisers and this freaking huge steak. Tastewise we knew what to expect. Sizewise, we were awed and amazed. And overwhelmed. Because after the Tuscan Plate and Octopus Salad we were actually pretty full already. And then came this massive massive steak, topped with Foie Gras ! Along with a very nice pepper and mushroom sauce, my most favourite Mac n Cheese and very crispy skinny fries, which are slightly too skinny. I absolutely love the Namo Mac n Cheese ! Of course we couldn't finish the steak and felt like it was a waste, so if you decide to go for the Tomahawk, make sure you bring at least three friends haha.

MAD HOUSE THAO DIEN

New personal favourite in D2 !

BEST BRUNCH IN SAIGON

Except that they don't have aircon inside. Or at least the aircon is very weak. So if you are not a heat-enjoying expat like me, go at 8am ! Otherwise it gets hot. But let's get to the serious matter here. The food. Brunch is 385K per person, minimum 2 people, including one fresh orange juice and one coffee of choice. That is a real good deal. The bread is homemade, food is plenty, actually even enough for three people. Order some more side dishes, and you will leave stuffed ! Seriously, I've had a lot of shitty brunches before, this one is really good ! Overcome your laziness and go to Thao Dien on a weekend trip, you won't regret it. They serve until 2pm, but we arrived at 3pm and after kindly asking the waiter, who asked the kitchen, we still got brunch at 3 ! So luckyyy.

Here's a full list of everything we had:

  1. Brunch set for 2 comes with 2 fresh orange juices and 2 coffees (we had latte), so 4 drinks (I didn't like the egg potatoe chorizo thing so much though, I felt like there was something missing)
  2. A Mad Burger with fat chips (I like skinny fries) and a Choco Bomb (Chocolate Banana Shake)
  3. Potato Leek Soup (LOVE this one, and it's enough to share, really)
  4. Creamy Mushrooms (were niceeeeee)
  5. Garden salad which came with very little dressing which was kind of odd but I already was in a food coma before I could ask for dressing

So yeah, give MAD house a try. I know it is popular among expats and in the Thao Dien area, but I never tried it because I had less good experience with MAD house in district 7. But apparently they are not run by the same people (read it in a FB group). Next brunch place I will try is Hotel des Arts ! I saw very promising impressions on Instagram today haha.

SECRET HOUSE - Vietnamese Homestyle Cooking

A hidden gem, and the best, it's close to Floralpunk !

When it comes to 'an com', eating Vietnamese homestyle cooking, my personal absolute favourite in Saigon is Mountain Retreat. Which apparently belongs to the same group as Secret House and Secret Garden, along with some other concepts. The only thing about Mountain Retreat is, it's on the 5th floor of a building on Le Lai street with no elevator, and that street is under construction so there is always a bit of traffic jam on the way there. I go there if I want to treat myself. For normal occasions I go to Quan Bui, but what I don't like about Quan Bui is that all it's dishes are huge and hence very highly priced. Scrolling through food instagrammers I recently came across Secret House, which is rather new, and it is like right around the corner from Floralpunk, which is more than convenient. The food is gooood (not as good as Mountain Retreat, it's the best), and the menu is similar to the other places. They also have breakfast for 45K which is great for me, because I have been struggling to find a good breakfast place close to my shop.
