ESSENTIALS: BLACK GENTLEMONSTER SUNGLASSES

I haven't owned a proper pair of sunglasses since I was a teenager.
All others that I bought, but never wore, since then were 5$ Ray Ban lookalikes.

If you are a shy and timid shopper like me, you might know this awkward feeling of going into a sunglass store, determined to buy a pair of proper sunglasses but then... a shop assistant approaches and wants to assist you, and all you think is 'hell no, leave me alone'. Well I'm that kind of person. I don't want any shop assistant to assist me. I don't even want them to look at me, because that makes me feel awkward to try sunglasses on. Don't ask me why, I'm simply that kind of person. That led me to not owning a proper pair of UV protecting sunglasses since I was.... 14? Back then I had a pair of Armani glasses that my mom bought for me, but looking back, they looked really shit on me.

Living in South Vietnam with the sun shining extremely almost every day of the year, I have been thinking that I should invest in a pair of proper sunglasses to protect my eyes for a while. I also wanted them to be classy, so I can wear them everyday, and to be of good quality. Sounds easier than said, even now I don't know where to buy sunglasses here (except the cheap Ray Ban lookalikes), and I definitely didn't know what style suited me, so I didn't want to buy anything online. Sooo, then I was in Seoul at Incheon airport, and whenever I'm at an airport, I feel like I need to buy something, just because of the term 'tax free' you know haha. (Yeah I'm that kind of person who easily gets lurked by words like 1+1 of up to 70% off haha)

I went into this sunglasses store with an amazing Gentlemonster section (their store display is always so amazing and creative), and first thing I did was walking in, acting all confident, but secretly checking out whether any sales would approach me. Luckily all the guys in there didn't seem very interested. I tried on a couple sunglasses and decided on the illusion 01, because they reminded me of the big black framed sunglasses Audrey Hepburn wore in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. And I really love Audrey Hepburn and that movie. The sunglasses came in a black box, black bag, and allblackeverything (maybe you have seen it in my latest haul video). These glasses were just like made for me. (I mean, #allblack brand identity???)

Audrey's sunglasses worn in Breakfast at Tiffany's were from the iconic brand Oliver Goldsmith. You can still buy them here .

WHERE TO BUY & HOW MUCH DO THEY COST ?

So after I uploaded my Haul video, a lot o people in Vietnam asked me where to buy the Gentlemonster sunglasses, and I honestly had no answer to this question so I did some research for you guys. You can buy them through their official online shop for 215$, OR ask someone to bring them back to you from Korea, which will be the cheapest option. Retailing at about 180$ and 166$ in tax free area, you will be off cheapest. Oddly, when I googled my pair sunglasses, there were no top international retailers among the searching results and I gave up after page 2. In Vietnam, there are some people in Hanoi who sell the real ones (remember, the packaging is all black!!!), but they sell them at US retail price. An average of 4mil. (They probably import them from Korea and make little profit from the price difference). Anyway, I'm really pleased with the quality of the product (Zeiss glasses, robust plastic), and I do get my 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' every time I put them on. Major love !

New favourite items | OOTD

I did so much shopping in Seoul, I can't wait to show you all the gems ! What I loved about shopping in Seoul it's really diverse ! Like everything from Topshop to COS. I'm talking about the styles haha. The majority is kind of Zara though. Exactly my thing ! Basic but not too plain. Like the top in this post. I don't know how to describe it, but I think it's so cool ! Check it out:

I love this top to death even though it was pain in the ass to iron it this morning !!! It falls really nicely and it's perfect for layering !

New watch available at Floralpunk from Cheapo, a swedish brand . Definitely an affordable alternative to DW ! I usually never wear gold, but for this outfit, I had to pick this gold watch because it went with the buckles of my new boots:

Tadaaaa. We have seen them everywhere already, everyone, but really I have been loving them for the past five years so I had to buy these knock-offs which are so similar to the real Balenciaga ones. Every possible high street brand copied them at some point, but these Korean ones are the closest to the real ones I have ever seen. How could I resist ? (Actually I saw a pair with thicker leather in Guangzhou once but they didn't have my size huhu)

I love this top !!! I bought two of it, one for myself and one to get it produced because it's so nice. Paired with Wephobia pants and just some cool sneakers or boots, this is perfect for any occasion !

Balenciaga Cut Out Boots look-alikes

Balenciaga Cut Out Boots look-alikes

I first fell in love with the Balenciaga boots five years ago when I saw them on Rumi Nely of Fashiontoast. Damn they looked amazing on her toned legs and tanned skin ! Super kick-ass. I've seen them on several other bloggers ever since but noone ever wore them as well as Rumi : ) I don't think I can live up to her but I had to had them nevertheless.

Seoul Part II

If you are looking for fashion, lifestyle, food and culture, Seoul is your city !!! I have a hard crush on it, because it fulfilled all these expectations I had of an exciting city trip ! Seoul has got it all ! To western people unknown fashion brands, many and affordable, amazing food at almost every corner, and just amazing creative vibes. YOU GOTTA GO THERE, OK?! I have been to Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Shanghai, Beijing, Vietnam, KL, and from all these cities, Seoul has the best vibe. It's urban/sophisticated/modern/traditional, you get your whole traditional 'oh-I'm-in-Asia' vibe PLUS this 'omg-Asia-is-so-modern' vibe.

Here is a list of where you should go:

  • Stay at Vanilla Hostel 1, near Dongdaemeun, truly a gem for a cheap price !
  • Go to Hongdae, the student area on weekdays to do some affordable and cool shopping, and on weekends to hook up with all the drunk kids (seriously, on a Sat night every single person will be drunk in this area haha). Where to go ? Just walk around, there are things to see everywhere ! Stylenanda is in this area, too, and don't worry it's not too big. Get off at Hongik University train station.
  • Go to Itaewon for clubbing ! Behind Hamilton Hotel is a street full off bars, clubs, buzz and fun if you are looking for a night out ! Cake Shop is supposed to be the coolest club, but didn't get to go there. Heard that you eventually meet stars clubbing in Itaewon haha. The difference between a weekend night in Itaewon and Hongdae is probably that Itaewon is... more grown up. I guess Hongdae is all about getting drunk and drunk, and Itaewon is more like, you can have a talk with cool people between drinks.
  • Go to Gangnam and take walks around. Don't worry, it's not fancy as described in travel guides. Actually Gangnam is really cool ! A lot of food options and all the major luxury and street brands available here, yo ! There are two areas that are worth being checked out, Apgujeong Rodeo Street (also name of the station, just get off and turn into the side streets. Do your research in advance and do use google maps or you end up somewhere haha). AND there is Sinsa-dong. Get off at Sinsa station, turn onto Dosan-Daero and then just get lost in the alleys. So many cafes, shops and restaurants. Don't forget to bring your money, a LOT of shopping can be made ! : D
  • Go to Myongdong for the real big city buzz. It's gonna be crowded and loud. A lot of major cosmetic brands have different locations here, and because there is so much competition I guess there is always sale on something, which makes it the heaven for Korean cosmetic & beauty shopping ! You will also find all your high street brands like Zara & H&M here, and a lot of restaurants ! It's really mainstream but worth a visit. I also heard the best place for currency exchange is in this part of town, opposite the Chinese Embassy ! I got a pretty good rate there, so it's recommended.
  • Go to Dongdaemeun for late night/wholesale shopping. But don't go where the tourists go, go where the wholesalers go, like U:US or APM Luxe/APM. You can't buy anything singurlarly but you definitely will see a lot of amazing items which you want so bad, but can't buy, unless you want to own it twice. From a buyer's view, Seoul wholesale buying is much more expensive than Guangzhou, but the quality of the items and the styles are much nicer. From a consumer's view, this is heavennnn ! Things are cheap for great quality and so much variation to choose from ! Don't forget to go to the Shoe wholesale market, it's heaven, I swear. Opposite Designmarket in the alley. It looks crap outside but they have really nice shoes. You just order your size and pick them up the next day. Korean sizes are shit though. 39 is more like 38.5, and I never get my size right : (

These are all the places I went to, and yeah, if you are planning to go to Korea, this might be helpful. Also find a friend there in advance who can show you all the amazing places to eat, because not everything stated online as good by tourists is good enough in the Korean sense. Do your research thoroughly or you end up wandering around getting frustrated because noone speaks English and a lot of signs aren't even in English. Also beware of Taxi drivers who try to rip you off by not turning on the taxi-meter. Take a photo of their cab ID and report them to the board of tourism, you can get 500$ is the report is righteous ! Remember where you started and where you dropped off. I read this online, so not sure whether it's true but would be good though, right ? Me and Yi got ripped off bad time from Dongdaemeun to Gangnam. 40.000 KRW !!!! That's like going to the airport I heard and the airport is faaaaaaar.

Ok anyway, done with my Seoul report, there will be a video following for people too lazy to read, and yeah, hope you all get the chance to discover Seoul on your own soon. I really hope I can go back asaaaapppp : )

First time SEOUL !

Seoul Trip Diary:

After a nine hour flight and a 16 hour transit in Kuala Lumpur, I arrived in Seoul all excited ! Everyone who arrives in Seoul Incheon, try the restaurant at B1, it was one of the best dishes that I had in Seoul haha. I had pork with rice, so yummy ! Getting around in Seoul is pretty easy, and you have to buy a sim card online in advance. I also recommend buying a T-Card, which is like an Oyster card, which you can use on basically all public transportation and even in taxis. Buy it at the AREX transportation center (or sth like that, which is actually the train transportation information center thing, it took me a while to find it because AREX or ARAX wasn't in the fucking directory of the airport haha). Yi and me havn't seen each other for half a year so it was great to see her again. We stayed at Vanilla Hostel 1, which is highly recommended ! I paid only 200€ for 8 nights, and it's a super clean and cute hostel, very close to the the subway and the host Soo is so nice. So if you are going to Seoul and need a nice comfortable stay, stay here !!! : D On the first night we went to Hongdae, which is super cool and hipster, went clubbing in Itaewon, with after-clubbing sangyopsal, and the next day we checked out Dongdaemeun and Gangnam. Every part of Seoul has a different vibe, and Hongdae is just as cool as Gangnam ! Hongdae is more teen, twens, crowded and very very crowded at the weekend. Gangnam is more sophisticated, but not like super luxury as it is said in the travel guys. It's a decent mix between high end and street brands. Everything is affordable, Seoul is not exactly expensive. It's about the same as German prices. Taxi is cheaper though. Train as well. Seriously, Seoul is soooo exciting and truly the city that never sleeps ! You never get that deserted feeling of a dead city at any hour of the day, because believe me, Yi and me have been out at any possible hour of the day. Part two coming soon ! SEOUL IS AMAZING !
